Since the day he was born onto our small family farm in Michigan, Richard Nellett has been at one with the land. Although he pursued a career as a milwright in an auto factory, Richard continued to work the land almost single-handedly and has always seemed most at peace in the middle of a field. In addition, he has kept up with the latest scientific methods of cultivation and built his own equipment when necessary. Richard should be awarded first farmer because he cares deeply about the land, and because he has, in many ways, dedicated his life to feeding all of us.
