He is the son of the best farmer; he is a college graduate with a business and economics degree. He was awarded Conservationist of the Year for 2008 in his county. He also makes time to help his two teenage sons with 4H projects, including showing and raising hogs. And best yet, he is my brother and I think he would truly make the White House proud!

Farmer D has extensive experience creating world-class organic farms in communities, such as Serenbe (www.serenbe.com) and Hampton Island (www.hamptonisland.com) as well as having set up gardens in prisons, schools, camps, universities and other non-profit venues all over the world. He is an extremely passionate advocate for sustainable agriculture and urban farming. He is currently educating people all over the country about sustainable farming and gardening through his web TV series on www.mnn.com. He also has his own product line, Farmer D Organics Biodynamic Blend Organic Compost, which is sold at the front entrance of 18 Whole Foods stores. He makes this exceptional compost by taking the food residuals from 15 Whole Foods stores, composting it into a high quality organic soil amendment, which he then sells back to home gardeners and farmers who grow for Whole Foods, thus creating a model closed loop model. Since starting this project two years ago, Farmer D has redirected over 3 million pounds of organic waste away from the landfill and back into the soil where it belongs. He is now working with Envirelation who provides food waste collection and composting for the city of Washington DC and is currently putting together a food waste composting solution for the city of Atlanta with the help of his partners at Envirelation and Greenco. He is working closely with the EPA, USDA, Georgia Organics and the City of Atlanta to bring all the pieces together to create a model sustainable food system for Georgia and beyond. He also has served as the Vice President for Georgia Organics for the past five years and founded his own non-profit for starting gardens in schools, camps and prisons. He recently opened an organic garden center in Atlanta where he sells his compost, raised beds, organic seeds, tools, fertilizers, compost bins and much more. His website, farmerd.com, will soon provide a vast selection of organic products and resources for farmers and gardeners. Farmer D provides organic farm consulting to clients such as Richard Branson’s Virgin Spa, Palmetto Bluff, Sea Island and has recently brought the oldest public agricultural experimentation garden in the United States, The Trustees Garden, back to life after 240 years of dormancy. Farmer D received a Community Food Project grant for his work with homeless and low-income families to teach them how to grow organic food, cook nutritional meals and foster micro-enterprise landscaping and value-added food businesses. He is considered a celebrity in the organic farming world and at only 32 years of age has a tremendous amount of knowledge and contacts that would serve him well in this position.
